Luka, Mavs Shoot Lights Out, Win vs. Pels

Shots were falling behind the arc all night in American Airlines Arena. For the Mavericks, they were almost automatic as they defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 143-130 on Friday night.

Night in and night out, NBA fans expect one player in a Dallas uniform to produce: Luka Doncic. And boy did he ever. He put up 46 points, eight rebounds, and 12 assists. Kristaps Porzingis also had a great shooting night, hitting eight three-pointers and racking up 36 points.

A big reason for the Mavericks victory tonight was their three-point efficiency. They knocked down 55% of their threes, going 25 for 45 on the night. Contributions came from the aforementioned Doncic and Porzingis, as well as Finney-Smith, Brunson, Richardson, and more.

For the visiting Pelicans, they had a tough night on defense but some bright spots on the offensive end. Zion Williamson was dominant in the paint, going 14 for 15 and scoring 36. The other main scorer was Brandon Ingram, who had 30 points on the night.

Both teams have struggled early on in the season. The Mavericks have caught a little fire, winning six of their last seven contests. The Pelicans on the other hand had won four in a row before dropping their last two.

Both teams next games will be on Valentine’s day. The Mavericks will face the Trail Blazers at home, and the Pelicans will play the Pistons in Detroit Sunday night.
